How could I describe this portfolio in a single word? Being

My process and main goal in the completion of this portfolio is to focus on the singular most important thing that society often misses and takes for granted. We live in a world where the concrete focus of ones thoughts and energy consists of both time and money in equivalence. We shift from task to task doing, doing, doing, for the sake of accumulating wealth.

What is the point of all of this? We do not exist to be machines, we are not human doings. Put simply, we are human beings. This is the description and purpose of my portfolio. To exemplify the simple features of peoples humanity, taking a moment from their complicated lives to be still. I want to display the simple beauty and unique individuality between different people. Whether it be race, gender, or age, I want to emphasize the essence of equality and unity of mankind.

This project will be an ongoing part of my practice. I will not stop creating this work. I believe that there will always be room for improvement in this project.

I chose to display this work as a series of headshots. The eyes are the main point of focus. Why do I focus primarily on the eyes? There are many quotes from books and scenes in movies that, in different words, state the similar idea that the eyes are the way to see into the heart. The heart of the person, the heart of a human being. A person’s true means of intent and personality. The place from which their every living breath and moment stems from.

The choice of contrasting light, paired with the images being in black and white, is a technique used to highlight the lack of similarity between each individual person; to show the uniqueness in each person.

Snowflakes are created in such simple, yet glorious beauty. They are of complete individuality. Just as snowflakes, no two people are the same. This idea is the purpose of my project.
